Alex Wakely, past NCCC captain, returns to The County Ground, Northants
On Thursday 9th June Alex Wakely entertained 190 guests in the Curo Lounge talking about his 17 cricket playing years at NCCC. Captaining all forms of cricket from 2015, he become a central figure in the emergence of a small Northants squad playfully nicknamed ‘The Chubsters’.
Alex mentioned how receiving a SportsAid Award back in 2005 had helped boost his confidence and more importantly that his ability had been recognised.
Alex presented SportsAid recipient, Claire Stancliffe, deaf footballer from Northampton, with a SportsAid Award for her incredible achievements in playing and coaching football.
Trustee, Steve Robinson, welcomed guests to the event, thanking sponsors: Howes Percival; DWIFA; WAIB; DBFB; Tollers; MacIntyre Hudson; Mercer & Hole;BRI and All Things Business.
Following a BBQ, thanks to NCCC catering team, guests were entertained by the Steelbacks V Worcester Rapids in a nail biting T20 game with the home team winning in the last few balls.
