Rugby hero, Steve Thompson MBE, helps fundraise for Northamptonshire’s aspiring young athletes
Northampton SportsAid Lunch Club launched in 2001 to help raise vital funds to enable SportsAid to support Northamptonshire’s young sportsmen and women in the critical early years of their sporting careers.
Now, thanks to the sponsorship of BRI, DBFB Communications, David Williams IFA, Howes Percival, MacIntyre Hudson, Mercer & Hole, Tollers Solicitors, WAIB, NCCC and All Things Business the club was back up and running on Friday, with Steve Thompson MBE, hooker for Northampton Saints, England and the British and Irish Lions, as special guest.
The 150 guests watched Steve present Betsy Wizard, 18-year-old swimmer from Northampton with an award, funded generously by the Phillips Trust, a local trust who have supported the SportsAid for 17 years. Betsy is currently training hard hoping to win a place to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Steve Thompson MBE spoke openly about his recently diagnosed dementia as a result of multiple head injuries and how it is affecting his everyday life.

Since inception and along with the generous support of the Phillips Trust £200,000 has been invested in young talented athletes living in Northamptonshire.”
