On Friday 20 May, Chemmy Alcott, a massive SportsAid charity ambassador, spoke from the heart captivating the Dorney Lake audience as she talked about her incredible career on the alpine ski slopes.
Chemmy competed in four Winter Olympic Games and seven World Championships and has been overall Senior British National Champion 7 times and Overall British Ladies Champion 8 times. She retired from international competition following the 2014 season.
Chemmy presented Nina Sparks, para snowboarder from High Wycombe, with a SportsAid award for her achievements so far in boarding.
Since being nominated to SportsAid by GB Snowsport, Nina told us:
“I took part in 4 Europa Cup Banked Slalom races where I came 4th, 2nd, 2nd and 1st place. The race where I took first place gave me a wildcard entry into my first World Cup Race for Banked Slalom and came 8th (last). I was then selected by GB Snowsport to compete at the Para Snowsports World Championships in Lillehammer in January 2022, and I came 6th in the Banked Slalom competition.
“I finished the Para Snowboard season 2nd Overall for Europa Cup and 13th Overall for World Cup. Since then, as the main team have been focusing on Beijing, I stayed out in Austria for the rest of the season where I took myself to Snowboard Cross competitions run by Snowboard Germany and competed against able bodied competitors, finishing the season 3rd overall for that race league.”
Date of the next lunch will be in October 2022.
